A New Way of Experiencing American Sign Language and English
                ASL Tales
How does ASL Tales align with the Common Core? The Common Core has deemed that in order for our students to become college/career ready they must; "be able to determine or clarify the meaning of grade-appropriate words encountered through listening, reading, and media use; come to appreciate that words have nonliteral meanings, shadings of meaning, and relationships to other words; and expand their vocabulary in the course of studying content". http://www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy ASL- Tales expand beyond traditional texts and ordinary teaching tools.  Due the strong visual component, the affective use of ASL Tales allows for understanding of context subtleties, vocabulary development, and identification of voice to become more apparent. The Common Core writing component requires students to write narratives that include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings.  This is usually difficult for students to visualize and express in a written format.  With ASL Tales students are able to access and label visual information and in turn produce written expressions of characters along with their actions, thoughts and feelings.
