About ASL Tales

ASL Tales is a whole new way of approaching story books. The stories are not translated from the English or from the ASL, rather new and old stories were written by native users of both languages working together to create stories that honor both languages’ expressive strong points.

This unique approach is intended to create a story that sacrifices nothing in either language. The visual elements that cannot be expressed in succinct written English are incorporated into the art work, and the transitional elements that come so easily to written English are expanded upon and made vivid in the ASL version of the stories. Through a unique collaboration, we set out to build a bridge between two wonderful types of story telling. In that process, we discovered that we have actually created a new kind of story.

Princess and the Pea is recorded in English, French, Spanish, Mandarin, Thai and Vietnamese. Look for other languages on future ASL Tales products.
