Do you love storytelling? We are looking for ASL student storytellers to create their own version of ASL Tales: Rapunzel.
Contest participants have an opportunity to have their work included in the ASL Tales Storytellers’ Collection DVD. All the profits from these DVDs will go to organizations that support bi-lingual education: the Deaf Bilingual Coalition and the American Society for Deaf Children.
Who we are looking for:
Deaf student storytellers
What we are looking for:
-Your own ASL translation!
-Entries should consider the meaning of the book, looking beyond the surface English text. Pinky’s video is only one version of how the book can be told in ASL. We are looking for your own creative version of how to tell this story!
- All of the ideas and elements in the book should be included in your ASL video. You may alter the order of ideas on each page, but the order of the story should match the text on each page. Using the illustrations to supplement the ASL video is optional.
- Something different than the translation already created by Pinky and Alisha.
- Your IMAGINATION AND CREATIVITY!
NOTE: Adults may give support for understanding the English, and teaching students how Pinky’s version is equivalent to the English text. Actual translations (contest entries) must be created by the student.
NOTE: Students may stop as often as they need. Unlike most ASL contests, we are more interested in the effectiveness of the translation as an alternate ASL version of the book than the performance. Contest winners will work with an ASL Tales Team member for creating the final video for the DVD.
How to apply:
You will need a copy of the book/DVD. Many programs with Deaf students have a copy in their library. If you need the book/DVD specifically for this contest, send an email to contest@asltales.net, and we will send you a coupon code to order it at 35% discount.
Entries may be submitted via DVD or electronically. For options to upload your material, contact us at contest@asltales.net. All entries require a signed entry form. Those can be mailed or scanned.
