ASL Tales is looking for young artists to share the pages of Annie’s Tails. Young ”Annie” is an artist, and we invite your child or student to submit their creations and have a chance to see their work in print!
Who may apply:
- Deaf students between the ages of 4 and 10.
What we are looking for:
- Original children’s art that represents that art of the main character in the story Annie’s Tails. “Annie” is 5.
- Original artwork in crayon, marker or paint. Themes can include, but are not limited to: aballoon,a heart,a bicycle, a cat, abunny, a truck, a face, a box, a pig, a fox, a bird, a car, the sun, a star, a book, a monkey, a giraffe, a dog, a child, or a horse. Young artists may choose to submit a total of 3 pictures. Only one piece, per child, will be selected.
How to Apply:
- Submit a copy of your child’s art (save the original!). Original art should be no larger than 8.5 x 5.5.
- Each entry must be the original work of a Deaf child between the ages of 4-10. (Adults may give support, but they cannot contribute to the artwork.)
- A signed release must be included with each entry.
- Deadline for submissions is April 1.
Winning Entries:
- Will be reproduced in the pages of Annie’s Tails. The images will appear approximately the size of a postage stamp.
- A gallery of selected art will be included in the back of the book.
- Winners will receive 2 autographed copies of the book.

Full Official Rules:
1.SPONSOR: ASL Tales, LLC, who is solely responsible for all aspects of this contest (“Contest”).
2. ELIGIBILITY: Contest is open to Deaf and hard-of-hearing children between the ages of 4 & 10, who are legal residents of the U.S. and Canada.
3. WINNING ENTRIES: Each winning illustration will be included in the pages of the book, Annie’s Tails, displayed in the young artists gallery at the back of the book, and will receive 2 autographed copies of the book.
4.LIMITATIONS: Each Entry must be received at Sponsor’s above address by April 1, 2011. Each child may submit a maximum of 3 entries. Entries must be the original work of the student. Entries that are defective, delayed, destroyed, incomplete, late, lost, mutilated, postage-due, stolen, tampered with, unauthorized, even if caused by the negligence of the Sponsor, will be disqualified. Void where prohibited or restricted by law and subject to all applicable federal, state, provincial, local and municipal laws.
5.PROCEDURES: Contest ends on April 1, 2011. Winners will be notified by May 1, 2011.
6.CONDITIONS: Each contestant by entering the Contest agrees that: [1] he/she will abide by and be bound by the Rules and Sponsor’s decisions; [2] he/she irrevocably assigns and transfers to Sponsor and its assigns all rights in the Entry, including, without limitation, all copyrights [3] he/she grants to Sponsor and its assigns the right to publish, use, adapt, edit and/or modify such Entry in any way and in any and all media, without limitation, and without consideration to contestant; [4] the Releasees are not responsible for claims, injuries or losses of any kind resulting, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the awarding, delivery, acceptance, use, misuse, possession, loss [5] winner’s acceptance of a prize constitutes the grant of an unconditional right to use the winner’s illustration(s)[6] in the event unauthorized human intervention, Acts of God, accident, fire, riot, strikes, lock-outs, industrial disputes, acts of terrorism or other matters beyond the Sponsor’s reasonable control, corrupt, prevent or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play of this Contest, so that it cannot be conducted as originally planned, the Sponsor has the right to cancel, terminate or suspend the Contest; and in such event, to select winners from among all eligible entries received up to such time of cancellation, termination or suspension; and [7] the Releases are not responsible for typographical or other errors in the offer or administration of this Contest.
